The Pacific Games Council (PGC) have highlighted that government support, people with expertise and available facilities as the three main criteria of choosing the new host for the 2019 Pacific Games.

PGC president Vidhya Lakhan made this statement after the announcement of the three Pacific Games Association (PGA) countries Guam, Samoa and Tahiti who have showed their interest in hosting the 2019 Pacific Games, yesterday.

“What will try to do during the evaluation process is to pick the best out of the three. We will look at the facilities they have in place, we will look at their budget also their government support and if they have people with expertise,” Lakhan said.

In addition he mentioned that having people who have expertise in running the games would be critical in terms of the organising of the games.

“It's the people, the people who will make it all people. If they have people who have expertise who have done the games before and know what it is all about. So that is critical because we don't have much time to train the people in terms of organising the games.

He said two of the PGA countries have identified approximately how much it would cost them to have their facilities renovated.

“Those are the things we will be taking in to consideration because we don't want any of them to build huge new structures and just for them to work with what is on the ground and that is about it,” he said.
