The SP PNG Hunters have today officially stood down player Gonzela Urakusie subject to an internal investigation by the club regarding an alleged incident last Sunday in Goroka.
CEO Brad Tassell confirmed that after close consultation with Hunters Welfare Officer Mark Mom, Head Coach Michael Marum, PNGRFL Chairman Sandis Tsaka and SP PNG Hunters Chairman Graham Osborne the decision had been made to stand down Urakusie;
“It’s tough but we have a process to follow and we will not make any further comments until we have conducted our own investigations into the alleged incident. Until that is completed Gonzela will be stood down and will not return to Hunters Camp. Once completed we will then determine what action needs to be taken.”
Urakusie said he accepted the clubs decision;
“I accept the clubs decision to be stood down until this matter is cleared up and will cooperate fully with any investigators and club officials. The club has been in contact with me and fully explained the process. The club has been very professional in educating the players and as such I respect the process the club has to follow in regards to this matter.”
